Dr. Brenda J. Bowers, PhD, DNP, RN brings over 35 years of health care experience to Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare and our broader communities. Her passion and expertise lie in the are as of psychology, substance abuse, and professional counseling with the goal of advancing a healthier society through a faith-based and holistic lens.
In her role as Corporate Senior Vice President/System Chief Nursing Officer, she is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and evaluating patient services Systemwide. Partners with WFH System Chief Medical Officers to establish an environment for clinical excellence, patient and family service, and clinical partnerships between nurses, physicians, and other clinicians.
Dr. Bowers also has executive oversight of the patient and family experience in all care delivery areas; diversity, cultural competence, and inclusion strategies; clinical development; population health management; learning and knowledge services and clinical simulation.
In 2006, Brenda was recognized by the Milwaukee Business Journal as a Woman of Influence in the category of Inspiration. She published her dissertation on “Executives transitioning from a silo to a systems-based approach in a complex health care organization.” She was the keynote speaker for the UWM Women’s Leaders Conference luncheon in 2011, led a breakout session for the same in 2012 along with Gloria Steinem, delivered the commencement speech for UWPlatteville’s Winter 2011 graduating class, presented a break out session for the 2015 National Catholic Health Association session in Washington D.C. and has published several articles on leadership competence, change and transition, and innovative development of physician and nurse leaders.
Brenda continues to speak to women’s organizations, not for profits, and other business corporations across the nation.
She is very committed to her life’s work in ministry with her husband Bill. They copastor Vessels of Honour Church, Inc. located in Mequon, Wisconsin.
